In Nigeria, father inserts hot electric heater into son’s anus for allegedly being gay

A 58-year-old man, Malam Shettima Gudumballi, has been arrested for inserting an electric heater into the anus of his of son, Umar, over allegations of engaging in gay sex, officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said.

The suspect, who is a resident of Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria committed the inhumane act on his child following accusations that the boy had been engaging in homosexual activities with some politicians in the area.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that Gudumballi, a director with the State Ministry of Forestry, was informed of his son’s alleged homosexual activities with some local politicians and other teenagers in the area and as a form of punishment inserted the red-hot heater into the boy’s anus.

The Commandant of the Corps in the state, Ibrahim Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect is undergoing interrogation presently and would be charged to court after investigations.

“On January 19, 2017, one Malam Shettima Gudumballi, 58, of 1000 housing, a director with the Borno State Ministry of Forestry, was arrested by the command for torturing his 10-year-old son, Umar Shettima, with an electric heater.

The father suspected that his son was a gay along with four others, who also mentioned 12 other boys involved between the ages of 11 and 14.

After examination of the victim by doctors on duty at the State Specialist Hospital, they suggested that the anus might have developed bacteria and further complications.”

The commandant added that Gudumballi who is their custody has confessed to the crime and has pleaded for forgiveness, blaming anger for his actions.

Nigeria, just like most African countries has refused to legalise same-sex relationship, considered a crime attracting a penalty of 14 years in jail.  Homosexuals in the country, despite acting underground  have always been under attacks from the public, families and friends who often ostracise them.
